Hello. I was recently diagnosed with hep B infection. Just randomly did the test, not because I was ill or anything. I didn't complete my vaccine shots 2 years ago, so I dont know how long Ive had it for. My liver function tests are normal, but with my liver enzymes a little above the margin, but the doc says that can be normal. I had these tests done in a government clinic in Nigeria, they just said I can go on eating anything and return for a test in 3 months. Please what do you suggest? I hope they know what they're doing. Im kinda scared. From Ms. M

With HBV at 10% ish of all Nigerians it is so sad that so little decent HBV education booklets are available to them. We gave this lady a whole raft of ideas on better eating less fried less late nite eating more greens. No alcohol, no painkillers, and she has since progressed well and got her ALT scores back in normal range. for most Africans anti viral medicines are priced beyond range so it is really important that they can take ownership of knowing a little common sense with lifestyle and diet can really help their livers. She was quite excited that she is now able to create perfectly healthy liver scores for herself and that this in turn pushs the chance of liver disease far away from her. Further when we gave her a good expalnationof the vaccination she cried as is so common she thought HBV is a really infectious type of HIV and she could not have partners but with the vaccine she is off searching for mr right again. Sometimes when a lady gets the faith to glam up the facebook pic again and starts remembering she is young and pretty it makes me very very happy. It really is a priviledge to help people sometimes.
